Dr. Mohammad Amin Wakman

Dr. Mohammed  Amin  Wakman  is the son of Brigadier Mia Sahib Khan  a  freedom  fighter  of   Afghanistan   independence from  the British  rule   in   1919.   He   was   born   in   Maydan   province  of Afghanistan   in   November 1,   1939.   He   completed  his primary education in Maydan and secondary education in  the  High School of Business and Commerce in Kabul. For a while   he   worked with the United Nations mission  in Kabul.   He graduated  in  1964 from the   faculty  of  Journalism   of  Kabul  University.  He served   as a reservist in  the  Afghan  Army   in   1965,   and   took   part   in   he establishment of he   Afghan   Social  Democratic  Party   popularly known as "Afghan Mellat".

In 1966  he  served   as   Chief   of   Protocol   in   the   Ministry   of Information and Culture.  He was posted  as  broadcaster of Pashto Service of Radio Ankara, Turkey. On his return to  Afghanistan  he was assigned as  Director,   Information   and   Culture  of   Jauzjan province  and   Editor   of  "Dewa"   daily   newspaper.   Later   he  was transferred to All India Radio as Pashto broadcaster. After the communist  coup  in   April 1978. He   resigned   from   the   Afghan government. While the party  was  in  exile  in   Peshawar   he   was elected   Secretary   General    of    the  Afghan  Social  Democratic  Party.   In   1986   he   went   to   Mecca   for   Haj  pilgrimage.   He has   traveled more than thirty countries to find a solution  for   the just cause of the Afghan people.

He took part in  the  World    Congress of   the  Social   Democratic Parties in  1980,  1984  and  1988  in   Spain  and  Portuga l and  in  1992   in    Berlin,   Germany   and   in   1997  in  New  York,   USA.

He   holds   M.A.,   M.Phil   and   Ph.D   from   Jawaharlal     Nehru University, New Delhi, India in political science, diplomatic studies and international affairs. He is the author of  three   books:   Social Democracy,    Afghanistan     At    the     Crossroads,    Afghanistan, Non-Alignment and the Super Powers. He has  written  more   than six hundred editorials and articles in Pashto,   Farsi   and   English.

In the party congress in   1987   in   Peshawar   Dr.   Wakman   was elected as Chairman of the party. He was re-elected to the position in mid-term election in 1989. In the  4th   general   congress   of   he party Dr. Amin Wakmanwas   elected   Honorary   Chairman   and Director of International Affairs of he party.

He is working with Voice of America as writer and broadcaster in Washington.
